Our "esteemed" BBC presenter Tomasz Schafernaker was caught live on air
making rude hand gestures at colleagues ... oops.

Was he the one who got into hot water a while ago for referring in a
forecast to somewhere (Orkney, IIRC) as "in the sticks?

I hope he weathers this one. At least he can't be accused of being
stuffy ......

Not surprising. The man is a prat. On Radio 4 at 1257 pm today
he started off by saying that the sky has been shrouded in thick rain
this morning. He meant cloud, I should think, but rain, cloud, what's
the difference? The rest of the forecast was the usual disorganised
waffle and verbal incontinence ("as we go through the course of the
afternoon period"). Why do the BBC foist this idiot on us?

Without commenting directly on his abilities or otherwise I wonder how many
of us could stand in front of a live TV camera with several million people
watching and not make the occasional slip of the tongue?

For a meteorologist that's some slip of the tongue. If it had
been he would have corrected himself immediately. In any case I was
talking about Radio 4.
It is not a valid defence to say that none of us could do it.
If, after a train crash caused by the driver passing a signal at
danger, someone said "Well, if one of us drove the train and I'm sure
we'd miss a few signals" he would be shouted down with yells of "It's
his job" .
If Peter Gibbs and one or two others can give a clear well-
organised forecast why can't Schaffernaker? This latest cockup on
Schaffernaker's part is just the latest in an overall shambolic
performance, at least on radio. I don't see the TV forecasts because
the graphics make me want to poke screwdrivers into my eyes.

Terry Tibbs I see you're sticking with the TT theme, here if you cover the
Japanese weather you could sign Tora Tora.
