Sunny periods yesterday after overnight showers (with thunder). A max
of 18.7C. Today I've just returned from 4 hours at Sennen, where the sunshine was virtually unbroken (pretty medium cumulus just inland), the visibility was very good, the sea was about the warmest all year (certainly noticeably warmer than at any time in August, when there seemed to be a bit pf a cool pool around Land's End), & the surf 4'+ & clean. http://www.chapelidne.com/php/surf_report.php Max in Penzance (so far) 20.1 Slack areas of low pressure often give some of the best weather right on the coast, esp in September, when they often (as today) have imported some warm humid air. September anticyclones have a habit of being noticeably chillier. Today's felt like proper summer again. Sharp showers just inland of the south coast from Falmouth eastwards though, must be the effect of being too close to the English. Graham Penzance |

Classic 'spinal' showers http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/index.html tending to drift over the coast of SE Cornwall now. You're going to have to move to the coast! View from Land's End http://www.landsendweather.info/ - still virtually cloud free. Graham |

Graham Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to live on the coast as I have done all my life until these past 10 years. The only reason we live up here was because this house was at least £10,000 cheaper than a similar one in Falmouth. But now that we are here we like it and are unlikely to move. Nice and quiet as suits a pair of pensioners, no vandalism, great neighbours, decent bus service to Truro but crap elsewhere and not too far from either coast. -- MCC |

During the 1st few days the same sort of thing applies. E.g 2nd Oct 2003 saw a completely dry, warm day with sunny periods & a max of 20.1C. Perhaps not what you might expect from the synoptic chart http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive...ka20031002.gif However, in October there are 2 factors which make this sort of thing less likely. 1. Slack areas of low pressure are less common than in September. 2. If you look at the SW rainfall radar for the last 2 days, the showers over the sea largely disappear by mid morning, as they develop inland. With the 'weaker' sun, the showers are not so keen to migrate inland, instead they have a tendency to persist near windward coasts, especially in the 2nd half of the month. The email address was OK by the way - I'll get back to you. Graham Penzance |

Graham Penzance The coast is the coast Graham, whether you are in Cornwall or Devon. Glorious, sparklingly clear day here in Wembury, but deeper convection and showers inland.
