uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

Probably not of much interest to those who are only interested in the
weather, but it is not just snow that is going to leave the British scene - blackberries will be doomed too! http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=52896 Cheers, Alastair. |

We shall see. Last winter took a lot of government people and planners by surprise, it was so funny to behold. Climate Change includes colder and snowier winters in the UK you know! Will -- |

Yeah. Mark Serreze's and those who actually pay taxes catch a severe cold. |

Will -- No Will get it right, its now called Climate Change Disruption http://www.thenewamerican.com/index....disruption-yes Yup that just about covers the bleedin' lot doesn't it? We are being collectively brainwashed. I like this George Orwell quote: In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. I know where I stand. |

We shall see. Last winter took a lot of government people and planners by surprise, it was so funny to behold. Climate Change includes colder and snowier winters in the UK you know! Will This seems to happen almost every time there is a significant large scale event. Examples: An increase in mild, stormy winters in the 1980's and 1990's resulted in lots of claims that the UK would see incressingly wetter and stormier winters with climate change. Now, we have a couple of cold winters and some are saying the UK will see colder winters with climate change. Is what actually happened more likely due to the NAO being in a positive phase for an unusually long time then switching to a more negative phase at the turn of the century? We have seen this with hurricanes as well. After the very destructive 2004 and 2005 Atlantic hurricane seasons there were papers published linking the heightened activity to warming tropical sea surface temperatures which suggested that climate change was at least partly responsible. Then, after the benign 2006 and 2007 hurricane seasons, there was a paper published suggesting that climate change would lead to increased vertical wind shear over the tropical Atlantic reducing hurricane activity. |

These highly advanced civilisations have been hiding their light under a bushel. It makes our civil defence technology look very pathetic. PJ |

Interesting that Google now (and despite all other cause for complaint) allows you to post to ancient threads. It's almost as good as the good old days. (Only not.) How does a non-existent hurricane season affect the sea ice in the Arctic Circle? |

The telling thing in that paper is the relentless rise in CO2 but not the same rise in temperature. The only conclusion I can come to is that there is far more to climate change than CO2 considerations which appear too simplistic. Will -- My understanding is that more energy has been absorbed by the oceans in recent years (partly due to El Nino etc.) Climate change certainly is complex & little understood, which makes it even more important that we should take care what we throw into the environment. |
