Default Forecast: unsettled, wet and potentially windy at T240

That fulfils my crteria for a 10-day forecast. 10 days of unsettled,
wet and windy weather to come, at least, for most of the UK.

**At T240, on 8th October, the UK will be in a period of generally
wet, potentially windy and very unsettled weather. No real cold and
very few frosts, as the wind directions will have been S-SW for much
of the preceeding period and will be from the Atlantic on the 8th.
Winds will be strongest in the west and NW, but very few areas will
escape windy weather over the next 10 days and some areas will still
be windy on the 8th"**

We'll be hankering after summer at the start of the second week in
October. There are hints of a settling at longer distances and the
weather will shift eastwards in the end, but I wouldn't bet on it -
yet. I'd be happy about this mild outlook in January, mind!

will there be any DNS problems associated with this?

I notice your latest forecast on your website saying there lots of DNS
problems coming in with the lows?

I was hankering after summer during the summer!

Once we get into October, I expect the weather to deteriorate. As far as
I am concerned, any fine days from then up until March are a bonus.

Coming into line at last with me, that's better!
Summer can wait, we have all of winter to look forward to, yippee!
Why do you say weather will shift east Paul? I really cannot see the
dynamical reasons for that? If anything I would expect some retrogression as
the long wave amplitude increases and the continental high possibly extends
westwards as a consequence? Eh?

what about the DNS complications dawlish is referring to in his latest
forecast on his website?

Will DNS errors have an impact on long wave amplitude just south of
Greenland? or IE7?

We'll see Will, we'll see. Always best to analyse a forecast at
outcome, don't you think? My forecast is for unsettled conditions at
T240. if we agree, that's a happy coincidence, don't you think? I've
also said "don't bet on this changing - yet". I think you missed that
bit. *)) the forecast has a clear date and clear criteria - unlike
your forecast for the "last week in August" which was clearly wrong.
Heresy.

Any meteorological answers to my questions Paul as to why you expect the
weather to shift east when standard dynamical theory would suggest
otherwise?

However, the eastward shift

question of when. Right Will?

I'd agree. I was also puzzled by the progressive assertion. Atlantic
ridge developing mid-month, perhaps, with occasional cooler NW'lies
across the UK and/or the Continent.

Thanks. You know what Stephen, I would go along with something like that,
perhaps even a full blown arctic northerly for a while. There are other
scenarios too, a sort of pseudo block with stagnant lows over B. Isles.
reinforced by shortwaves coming down from the NW - we shall see, let's
"enjoy" the 200 mph jet at around 51N with potential for rapid cyclogensis
first and deal with the future later!

Cheers,

Will
