Default Torrential rain this morning in the South

As Nigel has reported in his ob., there was heavy rain in S. Hants, W.
Sussex and the Isle of Wight this morning, here too in Fareham with
just under an inch here and 30mm over the two days (read at midnight).
My daughter reports a period of torrential rain in Lee-on-the Solent
at school time this morning, front lawn turned into a lake for a while
and she estimates two inches of rain overnight/morning which, from her
description seems a reasonable guess.

This is supported by the rainfall radar and a report on BBC South
Today at 6:30 that Eastney (Portsmouth) has recorded 70mm of rain in
the last 24 hours. The programme contained several video reports of
flooding in the S. Hants/W. Sussex and Isle of Wight area this morning
and the highest 24h rainfall mentioned was Duncton, W. Sussex, 80mm.

So: Eastney 70mm
Duncton 80mm.

Just got back from driving to a funeral in Bournemouth today.
Heavy rain when we reached Dorchester. Hardly dangerous driving
conditions though, a few puddles across the road in places.
Notice Bournemouth had 20 mm over 24 hrs, 12 mm in 12 hrs to 1800Z.
Not particularly much in my opinion.
0.9 mm in my gauge when I got home!

Probably not the main area of rainfall Len.
Blimey just 0.9mm, 13.1 mm here in Haytor and 19mm in Postbridge.
Pesky rain shadow I suspect? :-)

For that part of the world I guess so. Just totted up how much we
have had in the last week, 5 1/4" or there abouts. An good inch of
that today in the form of wet snow, sleet and rain.

Brrr I don't like easterlys, the office is on the east side of the
house and the F5 of today makes it a tad cool.

We're exposed to the east as well Dave! Straight off Lyme Bay and the
continent.
Got back home today and the inside house facing east was only +13C. Which
was considerably warmer than outside where the max. was just 5C.
