And given the battleground (is this the first incidence of this use
this winter?!) maybe many more will be?!

I understand the cynicism when it's all at T+fantasy but not now. The wet
bulb freezing levels will start falling tomorrow bringing sleet and snow to
lower levels in the far N/NE. The first signs of this can be seen in the
long TAFs with showers of rain and snow forecast at Aberdeen from 0500Z

EGPD 231102Z 2312/2412 33010KT 9999 FEW010CB SCT035 TEMPO
2312/2405 6000 SHRA BKN012 TEMPO 2405/2412 4000 SHRASN BKN006=

with a risk at Newcastle from 0300Z :-

EGNT 231102Z 2312/2412 31009KT 9999 SCT020 TEMPO 2312/2412 7000
-SHRA BKN014 PROB30 TEMPO 2403/2412 4000 SHRASN=

Updated advisory
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...ngs.html?day=3

As the flow backs tomorrow evening it 's likely to get quite wintry for the
likes of Ken and Dave in NE England
(trough on the 00Z T+48 PROG http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/brack1.gif)
and Graham down in Penzance could be plagued by a dangler for days on end
:-)

* * I do not like cold weather and to have snow on top of it makes it
even worse. *This is also the view of the vast majority of people I
know. *Well, it would be; they're adults and have to go to work and
don't like sitting for hours in traffic jams, like my neighbour last
winter. *Or they have interests or a social or cultural life they wish
to pursue which involve travel and like me don't think much of being
confined to their houses because the roads are too treacherous or
completely snarled up. *Also, snow is cold, very cold. *Cold = Bad;
Warm = Good, except on this group, obviously, which contains some of
the most bizarrely unrepresentative people I have ever come across.
If you enjoy battling the elements for its own sake then good luck to
you but I've got better things to do.

I'll say this - it's 'interesting' and challenging to forecast snow
but I couldn't agree more with the above - and I thought I was alone
on weather forums. It's nice to find a kindred spirit. I fear,
however, that we are in a very small minority.

Stephen.

I agree that it is interesting to forecast snow as it is any other
kind of weather but rational discussion on this group is considerably
devalued by the obvious bias in favour of it and the sulkiness when it
doesn't happen. Just because one is interested in the weather it
doesn't mean you have to like everything it throws at you just as if
you're a jazz fan (and I certainly am) you don't have to approve of
some self-absorbed herbert shooting up and down the scales on an alto
sax, or some shed-builder of a drummer. You may get funny looks from
the true devotees but I don't always think they have ears.
Newsgroups and forums attract one-eyed fanatics. Compared to some
groups I've visited this one is at least polite, however irritating it
may be at times, and does contain knowledgable individuals.

I find that just plain funny. Grown men, too.

Well I for one will be glad if the weather rescues me from yet
another tedious crawl along the A96 on Friday. I'd much rather
stay snug at home with a roaring fire and a good book than
tangle with the traffic.

Me too. Although being carless for four weeks last winter was a bit extreme.
