Default Maximum temperature's relentless march south

I don't know how remarkable this is but it was the seventh day in a
row this morning that my maximum temperature reading at 9am in
Wanstead, East London, was lower than the day before...

Friday (19th) 9.7
Saturday 9.4
Sunday 8.2
Monday 7.8
Tuesday 7.4
Wednesday 6.9
Thursday 4.8
Friday 2.2

The last time I can remember the temperature edging down like this
every day (though I don't have the figures to hand) was December 1996
- that cold spell spread into January but the rest of the winter was
unremarkable...
