A couple of things that come to mind this morning. We now have freezing fog (currently -2.3°C) so seems unlikely any snow showers will be heading this way now. There is next to no wind, so the sea will get to work on our temperature as the feed from the east has slackened. But next week stays cold and there are many more rolls of the dice, although I still suspect rain with that low, what evers left of it! Overcast, but something of an easterly drift has begun and the sky has brightened considerably in the past few minutes. The ground is now frozen hard, which is something I wouldn't have expected quite this early in the winter. Still, last winter's cold weather did lead to a good spring display in the garden and a repeat of that would be very welcome. Obviously we've a long way to go, though! - Tom Blackmore, SW Essex 75m asl |

The sun came out briefly at 12.00pm but as it did so I noticed widely dispersed snow grains drifting down, with a bank of cloud to the E-NE. If you weren't watching closely you'd hardly notice them but I think I'll put that down as "the first snow of the winter" here. Above freezing now, at 0.6C, and the frost is slowly melting and dripping off the trees and bushes. - Tom Blackmore, SW Essex 75m asl |
