I'm now confused as to what has been the lowest reliable minimum in
this cold spell.

Wsa it really just Saturday night? It seems so long ago. We have
Colin's usually reliable records above. But there were the claims of
-17.3C in Powys yesterday morning. Now the BBC is giving Sennybridge at
-15.6C.

Is it just the usual of the BBC being phoned up by a man and his dog
with a thermometer and then beating a hasy retreat?

-18.0 °C at Llysdinam was the lowest, IIRC.

There are 2 problems.

Figures I post come only from sites that report synops, as those are the
only figures readily available online. The really coldest places may be
"non-synop" sites, like Llysdinam.

Synops for the minimum temperatures are reported at 06.00 UTC. At this
time of year, the actual minimum may occur after that time, and so the
minimum temperature reached even at a "synop site" may be lower than that
mentioned in my post.
