Snow showers throughout north Lanarkshire for much of the night, a
particularly heavy one around 8am this morning and further scattered snow showers since. All mount up to 35cm of snow lying in Wishaw this evening. The village of Salsburgh, 5 miles north has around 50cm of snow. The snow is now deeper than at any stage last winter. Travel problems were a greater today with quite a few major roads closed and many minor roads becoming impassable for 2wd. With the arrival of December has come our first ice day, even in the showers the temperature remained well below zero. Cloudy skies at the moment and a temperature of -7บC, unlikely they will clear for long tonight - with further scattered snow showers expected. But tomorrow night sub -15บC should be on the cards given clear conditions. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the UK record surpassed in the next few nights. Altnaharra, Braemar, Loch Glascarnoch or somewhere else, Maybe all four, take your pick! I took a few photo's today and shall put them on the website over the next couple of days. Stunning scenes here too! Alex. Wishaw, Central Lowlands. |
