I see once again the Daily Express is blazing a trail into the absurd of
laLa land.
todays headline 'The coldest winter for 100 years'
The media is now falling over itself to bring yet more disaster and horror
stories to our attention.whilst large swathes of England remain largly
unaffected.
Is there anybody out there, The Met Office ,Keith,Colin ,anybody who could
produce a snow ,snow cover map of England showing depths etc, which would
make sense to Joe public ?.
I know, from personal experience ,that the Thames valley southward and
northeast England are definitely no go areas, but large parts of central
England are accessible and certainly not SNOWBOUND !.
Any offers ?.
Or should I take the advice of a late friend of mine who ,'why don't you
save your breathe to cool your porridge ' ?

Ron,

The BBC reporter made me laugh last night when he said 2010 was the coldest
& snowiest winter ever
Wow 1 day that must be a record!!

Let's forget about 47, 63 and 79 they didn't happen!

I suppose that none of their journalists are old enough to remember
1962-3.

A work colleague was telling me he read Philip Edens Telegraph article
criticising UKMO and their new found Daily Express zeal for hyperbole.
I'll see if I can find it.

Well to be fair he was probably right. We know the date minimum for
Dec 1st was broken, which you could argue makes it the coldest winter
ever to date. (Whether it was the coldest CET for Dec 1st is another
matter) Snowiest? More subjective, but it must be up there....

Well ... yesterday was the coldest 1st December in Brussels since 1875,
apparently, i.e. the coldest *first day* of winter for 135 years !
