Brussels on Friday 17th December 2010

Snow cover up to about 6 cm this morning - a beautiful sight. Yesterday
evening's snow was quite wet, so vertical surfaces - trees, lamp posts, road
signs, railings - were covered. Snow had also adhered to the smallest
twigs on the trees, individual leaves on bushes, and even the tram wires -
looked almost like rime.

Main roads gritted and clear. Many side roads slushy or icy. Pavements
icy in places where heavily used. No significant traffic problems.

Cloudy start to the day - light snow shower about 08.00 local time. Sun
broke through mid-morning and the rest of the day was quite sunny. Patchy
medium-level cloud before midday and scattered shallow Cu in the afternoon.
Mostly light WSW wind backed SW during the afternoon. Another freezing
day - highest temperature in the early morning.
