Default [WR] 18/0710Z DEC 2010 RE-SN West Moors/E.Dorset

... (0410Z): a 'flurry' of light snow around 03Z which hardly had
any
impact, but now steadier fall of light snow: OAT -2.4°C, covering
most
surfaces but depth 1 cm or less currently. Small impact on
visibility.
... (0550Z): still snowing - light intensity throughout - cover
fairly
general at an (estimated) 2 or 3 cm, but roads coping and in places,
hasn't covered grass surfaces - local traffic passing with care and
I
can hear the A31(T) running OK too.

..... (0710Z): snow ceased ... petered out slowly from 0630Z .. whole
event was really a 'slight isolated moderate' one .. cover not much
more than noted above. OAT currently 0.1°C. Visibility moderate.
Traffic virtually absent, but not due to road conditions - just people
have decided not to venture out I guess as the local road is perfectly
drivable with care.

Martin.

.... (0955Z): 'settled' snow level average = 3cm, maximum 4cm; melted
equivalent 4.6mm. OAT currently 0.0°C. Roads ok with care - some
melting/settling/slipping off roofs & branches but otherwise looks
very pretty.

Last night added 4cm to yesterday's 2 to 3 cm cover here in Dorchester.
Air temp minus one at midday.

.... (1515Z): no more snow today - cloud amounts large through morning
& first hour of afternoon, then fragmenting/evaporating well -
currently clear sky overhead, but distant (Channel) Cu con towers
visible.

OAT=+0.3°C//DP=-0.9°C//F2 or less ... already well below zero over the
snow surface; which latter has settled (mainly) with some melting
(minor) to give an average depth of 2cm//maximum 3cm: main problem
tonight will be ice I should think & it could turn misty/patchy fog -
depends what the wind does.

Roads have been fine generally - need care away from A/B & 'linking'
roads, but people are getting around and buses have returned to
schedule.

Martin.
