.... (0730Z): first gentle flakes of snow falling now ... no impact as
yet surface/visibility, but with ground surface solidly below
freezing, anything coming down will lie immediately.

Overnight minimum -6.6°C//current OAT = -1.5°C. Little wind.
Traffic (light/no schools) passing OK currently.

Martin.

.... (0800Z): now steady, but still light, snow: OAT = -1.4°C, light
wind - visibility now affected but still reasonable ~ 4km (probably
some BR element making up the majority of visibility reduction);
surfaces beginning to pick up a snow cover. Traffic still OK ... local
bus passed ... only 5 minutes late.

Nothing in Southampton as yet but horribly dark to the south. It's the
first time for a long time that I've almost felt like turning the
lights on after 8am.

.... (0900Z): continuous PPN .. mainly slight past hour but short
period moderate snow; visibility now down to ~1500M (combination
snow/general reduction due mist/haze); new cover snow ~1 cm, total of
all snow mean= 2cm, but odd pockets max 3 cm.
OAT = -0.8°C//DP = -2.6°C. Traffic still OK .. steady but light ..
many decided not to bother I think.

You'd probably be OK driving to London, but fairly mad to head west
through that lot Martin.

.... (1000Z): moderate snow began a few minutes ago, otherwise slight
(occasionally 'noisy' as if there was a warmer layer intercepting the
PPN aloft).
OAT = -0.5°C. Visibility ~800M.
New snow depth now up to 2 cm over undisturbed surfaces [total
representative snow ~ 4cm] - and even trafficked areas have a shallow
cover.
Traffic slow/careful but moving, but I think the buses have given up
and re-cycling hasn't turned up .. probably H&S initially as the roads
are passable with care but it's probably a realistic decision given
the state of the pavements.

(RASN) mixed with pellets (PE) ... new snow depth 5 cm.

Been out for a walk: roads running OK ... all treated roads fine,
others PWC but the care is needed!

Seems to have turned to rain or possibly sleet in the Southampton
area. Lows coming in from the southwest are almost guaranteed not to
produce snow round here, even if the mild air doesn't get in - just
about all our falls are from winds with a northerly component.

Weird because there has been nearly a foot of snow in sub-tropical Exeter!
