It has now been raining that awful fine misty stuff all evening. It's a
shame that such a good cold snap should wimp its way out in the worst way possible! Dave |

Dave LOL, we must be thinking along the same lines Dave, as I think we posted exactly the same time. Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net "Weather Home & Abroad" |

Dave There's not much more depressing than thawing snow. But this is merely a temporary milder interlude, I think. (With temperatures around 1-2C it's hardly all that mild. And of course it's really only affecting the SE.) It looks to me as though even by this time tomorrow 850mb temperatures will be falling and the air should be getting drier, with a pretty fresh northeaster setting in. After that it's going to be pretty cold till the 26th at the earliest. Actually I can remember several days like today back in February, 1963 - grey with a slow thaw and sometimes a bit of light rain or drizzle - though I think there was only about one night when it didn't freeze. February that year was nothing like as intensely cold as January. Though the February CET was below zero, the mean temperature here south of the Thames was probably positive. But with such a thick snow cover at the start of the month it never all got shifted. -- John Hall "I look upon it, that he who does not mind his belly, will hardly mind anything else." Dave It has been at 0.3C most of yesterday evening and dropped to -0.1C this morning; there has been very light snow on a nd off over this period not adding significantly to any snow totals. Dave Cornwell writes: The 850's do seem to drop a fair bit by Thursday but I still fear more grey bleakness for some reason, it's so damp now. I didn't venture out this morning to get my newspaper, as I think it dropped to just below freezing here overnight, and after yesterday's slow thaw it could have been very icy. We still have a full snow cover here, though a bit moth-eaten in sheltered spots. -- John Hall "I look upon it, that he who does not mind his belly, will hardly mind anything else."
