Interesting sight when I took the dog out at 11 o'clock tonight. There was a
brisk wind blowing from the east, and above me, an aeroplane was flying due north. The resulting contrail passed directly in front of the moon, and VERY quickly moved away in an easterly direction, the opposite to the ground level wind. I assume the plane was high enough to be in the Jetstream. The 10cm of snow from this morning is still out there. A neighbour took me down to the supermarket this evening (bulk pre-Xmas stock up), and all the roads, even the main ones, are in a hell of a mess, with a mixture of compacted snow, ice and slush all over the carriageways. At least most of the buses are still running in town. M1, A45 and A43 were all closed for a time this morning. Big mess on the M1 near Bedford (J12-14) by all accounts. Everything running freely now. Christmas Card views this afternoon down at the woods and across the fields. jim, Northampton |
