Photo album of snow scenes in Brussels posted on Facebook by a friend of
mine: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id...&aid=206 6959 Nos 4 and 5 show the back of the building where I live. No 3 shows the other building of similar design to mine on the same site. Nos 6 to 9 show the view out of my sitting room window on Christmas Eve afternoon - trees and bushes in the garden covered in snow: 20 cm lying snow. Nos 27 to 40 show the state of the roads on Christmas Eve afternoon near where I live. Nos 12 to 23 show scenes in the streets on Christmas Eve near where my friend lives in the older part of Brussels. Nos 1 and 2 and the night scenes also show the area around where my friend lives - I think they were taken earlier in the week, before the heaviest snowfall on Thursday Night. Colin Youngs Brussels |

I can remember at least one other instance of 20 cm during the time I have been here but I am not sure of the exact year - sometime in the 1990s. According to this article in today's edition of the Belgian newspaper Le Soir http://www.lesoir.be/actualite/belgi...ord-810931.php the deepest snow cover on record at the Brussels Uccle site is 35 cm on 10 February 1902. December 2010 in Brussels has - so far - been the coldest December only since 1996. Average temperature at Uccle up to 23 December is -0.9°C. December running averages at Uccle http://www.meteo.be/meteo/view/fr/12...e+mois-ci.html 1st column: average wind speed (metres per second); 2nd: average temp.; 3rd: average max.; 4th: average min.; 5th: total rainfall; 6th: rainfall days; 7th: total sunshine.
