A very windy night with patchy rain, and temperature up to 8.4C by
09:00. Gusts 50mph locally (E.g. 58mph at Land's End, 53kn at St. Ives) I was surprise by just how rough the sea was, it must have been building to the south for some time. On reaching Mousehole at 10:00, 1 hour after high tide (a small one at that) the waves were pouring over the pier, and shooting 20'+ in the air. Unfortunately there were still a dozen or so cars parked on the pier from yesterday evening. These were being physically moved by every wave. At least 2 had windows smashed and were full of water, the electrics of all the others will be in a bad way, not to mention all the dents/scratches caused by all the pebbles etc. being thrown over. The whole event was proving quite a major tourist attraction, and I'm sure something will appear on youtube. Sadly, there is no webcam that I know opf at Mousehole, but here's the swell just around the corner at the Minack http://www.minack.com/min02_7ref30.htm. Starting to feel more like a normal Cornish winter. 12C tomorrow? Graham Penzance |
