This makes an ineresting read about the "Great Frost".
Highlights;
21 month duration
Blizzards end-October
December floods
Ice flows in rivers and sea
Drought
Siberian volcanoes
....and Liverpool's football season as bad as now...non-existent!

Conditions were also severe across the rest of the British Isles. The
calendar year 1740 is the coldest in the CET series.
