Default Another depressing forecast for East Anglia and South East England

It will become increasingly cloudy (eh?) with light rain possible by
Sunday. Max 6C. It's called the worst of all worlds. Not mild, not cold,
not sunny, not dry - well at least I'm putting a positive slant on it!

it is annoying - you get an anticyclone and it bloody rains. My car
died two days ago - thus having to cycle my daughters to school. "It's
alright, it won't rain, girls" I proudly announced at breakfast this
morning. "Daddy, why is it raining?" was my elder daughter's retort on
the ride in this morning. - it was quite moderate rain, too, for just
a few minutes

Thoroughly depressing weather.
Just when we need the sunshine and some nice clear air to dry out all
this dampness we get the 'worst of all worlds'.

Looks like it will only be December 2010 that the '10~'11 winter will
be favourably remembered for. The way things are shaping up it looks
like we are heading into a horrendous late January and February,
possibly like that of 1993. Feb 1993 was truly a doom and gloom month
with cases of winter depression at a high and the U.K. suffering a
recession. The first 13 days were dominated by sluggish anticyclonic
S.E.ly's where it was dull with 'uninteresting' temperatures. Cold
enough to feel unpleasant when out in the lightish winds. The next 13
days were dominated by anticyclonic N.W.ly's - dull and overcast with
'boring' temperatures. After much of the months rainfall total of 3 mm
fell on the 26th, a cold northerly developed with snow flurries. The
large quantity of snow forecast for the S.E.on Monday 1st March, of
course failed to materialise even after a good forecast on the Sunday
evening, thus ending a truly horrid winter in S.E. England. Hardly any
snow fell in December 1992, January or February 1993 and this was
after a snowless but slightly more pleasant and sunnier winter in
1991~1992 when only 48 mm rain fell at Guildford.

At least we have the memories and satisfaction of a remarkable
December this time even if January and possibly beyond is becoming a
big disappointment. Even mild would be welcome at present,oh for some
lovely sunshine, but another wintery blast would be more than
satisfying.

Guy.

The remnants of an old cold front are still affecting SE England
(00Z ASXX

- this combined with low-ish freezing levels and slightly unstable profiles
will continue to give some showery precipitation through Friday.
If anything the precip signal then gets re-enforced tomorrow night and
through Saturday as the next frontal link moves south.

Unexpectedly the cloud melted away in late morning in my part of Surrey,
and we had a beautiful sunny afternoon, though the wind was a bit nippy.

My take on it is that it's the UK and it's January, thus the default
weather is ****. Therefore I don't expect much at all at this time of
year and if we do get something interesting, it is a bonus as far as I'm
concerned.

The day length is getting longer now, we haven't got that long to go
till Spring and then we can all start wishing for thunderstorms and
heatwaves.
