Seems the season is at last moving on as in the last three days we
have had the two stereotypical weather types of spring. Firstly, the mild, sunny day on Thursday and then the classic showery day today. Even though today could be considered an "average" day in many ways it has been an utter breath of fresh air after the dullness of much of this month. Where I was (N of Portsmouth) managed to escape the showers too - the trough seemed to pass over the area between 1300 and 1500, with the first shower passing some way to the SW at 1300, while the "main event" seemed to approach just before 1400 and it looked like it would be quite a soaking. But in the end my area managed to get a gap between two of the showers, though I thought I heard thunder as one of them retreated SE towards Portsmouth. Then generally drier and brighter for the rest of the day though a 3rd shower passed to the NE around 1500 - seemed that each successive shower was passing further NE than the previous suggesting a SE-NW axis to the trough. Finished the walk I was on at around 1715 with the sun still shining. First time in months I've finished a walk in daylight. More life to the countryside too compared to even last week. Seems spring is finally on the way... Nick |
