Default Today's model interpretation (27/02/11)

Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Thursday.
Issued 0549, 27/02/11

High pressure will dominate the UK at the end of the working week and into
the weekend. Night time frosts are possible inland, while most areas will be
dry by day with temperatures not far from the seasonal norm.

Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS
A weak ridge covers the UK, bringing WNW'lies and WSW'lies. Tomorrow
northerlies cover the UK as a ridge moves in from the west, followed by
lighter winds on Tuesday as pressure builds over the UK. Wednesday sees more
of the same, with a high over the UK.

The jetstream chart shows a strong and zonal jet far to the north of the UK.
At the 500hPa level there's an upper high over the UK, while MetO has an
upper ridge instead. ECM shows an upper ridge to the WNW, with NE'lies
aloft, while GEM has upper northerlies. JMA shows upper northerlies as well.
At the surface GFS has the Azores High over the UK with light winds for all.
The other runs have northerlies and NE'lies, with high pressure to the west
or NW.

Evolution to T+168
ECM has a large ridge over the UK on day 6, with light winds for most. Day 7
sees northerlies and NE'lies as high pressure builds to the WNW.
GFS shows a high to the west on day 6 with light winds and a ridge over the
UK. On day 7 the high builds over the UK.

Looking further afield
Days 8 to 10 with ECM show high pressure declining and moving eastwards,
with southerlies and SE'lies picking up over the UK.
GFS brings light winds on days 8 and 9 as high pressure stays over the UK.
On day 10 a trough sinks southwards, leading to westerlies.

Ensemble analysis
