From the SpaceWeather web site:
LACKADASICAL LYRIDS: The Lyrid meteor shower is peaking today as Earth passes through a stream of debris from Comet Thatcher. According to worldwide counts, however, the shower is a dud. The International Meteor Organization reports a maximum (so far) of only 9 meteors per hour. Bright moonlight is interfering with the display. Well, one of those just flew over here, and really brightened up the sky. Even the dog took notice and barked at and tried to chase it while we out for our evening walk. Pity it didn't come down a bit lower. It might have bumped that damned high pressure system out of the way. Nothing else seems to be having any effect on it. jim, Northampton |
