Default Strong lee slope winds today

Hi, everyone,

Did anyone else have strong winds today or were they the Pennine
lee-slope effect again? From almost calm between 02Z and 06Z there was a
steady increase to 10 min means 25knots (force 6) gusting to 35 knots
around 13Z. A steady decrease followed to around 8 knots by 18Z.
General direction was 230 to 250 degrees.

The same thing happened yesterday, although winds were not as strong.
During the low wind speeds, the wind was around to 050 degrees. I guess
that there was an inversion aloft with the anticyclone causing an
intensification of the lee effect.

Jack Harrison, am I right, or have I still not got it?

ATB,

Not particulary strong up here or calm(*) overnight. From 0100 to
about 0915 it pottered along at F2 or F3, direction rather variable
from NE to S. Then a rapid increase to a WSW'ly F4 where it stayed
more or less constant to 1800 when it fell back in the next couple of
hours to F2/3 again.

(*) Calm enough for many spiders to have built quite large webs over
reasonable distances say 2 or 3 foot main support threads. These where
getting quite a bashing in the F4 when I was out about 1000.

The same thing happened yesterday, although winds were not as
strong.

Pretty steady F4 SW'ly all day yesterday. Minor blow on the 13th, F6
for a short while gusting to 30mph+ in the late afternoon.
