Brussels on Monday 30th May 2011

Sunny and very warm until mid-afternoon. Gradual increase in cloud at all
levels later in the afternoon and it was mostly cloudy by 18.00 local time.
Light SE to S breeze veered SSW and increased to moderate during the
afternoon. Wind veered NW in the early evening with a sharp fall in
temperature after 18.00.

22.8C max here , clouded up about 6pm. Light rain now but perhaps more

Fall in temperature when the wind veered NW after 18.00 Belgian time was
quite abrupt. Light shower here 5 minutes after I sent my post. Another
of those brief southerly heatwaves - 32.2°C at Kleine Brogel in NE Belgium.

It seems that the storms moving up from France will pass to the east of

Just looked at my trend graph and it dropped from 22C approx at 16.30 to
14C at 18.00.

29C!! Amazing that somewhere really just over the Channel, with no
particular barrier to the Atlantic in terms of high mountains etc, is
getting such extraordinarily high temperatures in what seems a bog
standard Wly setup and still in May. Given how often Brussels seems to
record temperatures well in excess of SE England, it's also surprising
that the mean maxima for Brussels in summer seem no higher than
London. I take it when it gets cool in summer it gets *really* cool,
to balance things out.

With the summer heat, winter snow, and impressive thunderstorms places
a little further away still get (S Germany - based on 3 visits), think
I'm living the wrong side of the channel :-)
