Default Today's model interpretation (16/06/11)

Here is a summary of the NWP output for noon on Monday.
Issued 0444z, 16/06/11

The first half of the working week will see a low and associated unsettled
conditions spreading across the UK from the west. All areas will see rain
and temperatures will be close to or slightly below average generally.

Analysis and evolution to T+120 via GFS
A trough covers Scotland, leading to SW'lies elsewhere. There are further
SW'lies tomorrow as a secondary low approaches from the SW. The secondary
low becomes a trough over northern England on Saturday, with SE'lies to the
north and westerlies to the south. Sunday sees westerlies for all with a low
over the North Sea.

The jetstream chart continues to show a strong, southerly-tracking zonal jet
over the Atlantic, England and Wales. At the 500hPa level there are
WSW'lies, with a low to the west, as is the case with all the runs.
At the surface the runs all show a low to the west. GFS has a col over the
UK and light winds for many, while the others bring southerlies ahead of the
low.

Evolution to T+168
Day 6 with ECM brings a col for Scotland and SW'lies elsewhere, with low
pressure over Ireland. The low moves away to the NE on day 7, leaving
WSW'lies for England and NNW'lies elsewhere.
GFS brings a col for Scotland with SW'lies elsewhere on day 6, followed by
NW'lies and northerlies for most on day 7 as a trough moves eastwards. The
far south lies under WSW'lies.

Looking further afield
Days 8 to 10 with ECM show NNW'lies, a col and further NNW'lies as a low
passes eastwards to the south.
GFS on days 8 and 9 shows northerlies and NW'lies, with high pressure close
to the SW. On day 10 the high builds across the UK, with light winds for
most.

Ensemble analysis

The GEFS continues to show near average temperatures for the next week to 10
days.

ECM shows near average temperatures too.
