You know years ago I used to visit the UKMO Holborn, London shop
regularly, in the eighties to be exact. In those far off day when AGW
was only mentioned in obscure climate books and then left wing in the
UK and globally were more interested in the trade union movement,
general strikes and pay deals in fact I was a member of a trotskyite
group called the Workers Revolutionary Party and believe me climate
change was never mentioned in any left writings, well not since Karl
Marx had his coal bucket stolen- how things have changed. I remember
my visits to the Holborn UKMO shop asking where UKMO stood on AGW or
GW as it was then. I always got the same answer from good old Victor
who staffed the public counter. "we just deal with weather not all
that stuff". There seemed to be a quaintness, an air of attitude that
epitomised the British stiff upper lip no nonsense matter of factness
that I would add was envied and respected around the world once upon a
time.

How different UKMO is today though. Now if you visit the website
(snazzy 21st century replacement for the Holborn shop) today weather
forecasting seems to be increasingly marginlised, buried under a
mountain of public safety warnings, health warnings and a tsunami of
we are all going to die from AGW hysteria. And that left I paralleled
with UKMO has now like the MRSA bacteria got into the heart of UKMO
where no forecaster can break from the party line without being
reported by a AGW politcal officer to the party politburo.

Okay those sad odd NG members who may actually read my post out of
sympathy will be saying "Lawrence is ranting like an idiot yet
again" Well that may be true but let me explain the latest reason
why: several days ago we had that rather startling NASA announcement
how three lines of scientific study all lead to the conclusion that
there is a strong possiblity that the sun the only real source of
energy for our planet may be going into some sort of hibernation where
magnetic sunspot activity was concerned. Now none of this is definite
but no one can deny the strong correlation between low sunspot numbers
and the little ice age period that has fascinated scientist and public
alike for many years.

So okay we have something that potentially will affect climate over
years (if it happens) yet ULMO on it's dreadfully latest climate
change news is so politically indoctrinated it fails to pick up on
this amazing announcement, even as I type there is nothing mentioned
about this climate change development. How can this be I thought
UKMO crowed continuously about its allegiance to the great AGW climate
crusade. Hold on though the sleeping sun could possibly cause some
cooling with even LIA mentioned and that chaps with UKMO just isn't
cricket as humans aren't involved and the warming catastrophe being
negated just doesn't fit the party line

You know one thing I did learn in my trotskyist youth were the stories
how when the Nazi launched Operation Barbarossa invaded the Soviet
Union in June 1941 was how Red Army personnel were reluctantly
reporting the invasion as the German troops poured over the long
Russian borders. Inmany cases as the Germans Luftwaffe unloaded their
air strikes desperate red army radio operators with the explosion
crashing in the back ground were told they risked being arrested and
court martialed for suggesting that Stalin's new bossom buddy
Hitler would ever harm a hair on the heads of his beloved Slavic
neighbours. In fact due to this fear of countermanding at risk of
death, the direct orders of Comrade Stalin the german army met no
resistance for almost a week.

The fact that UKMO's wonderfully spiritually lifting Climate hot news
page http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climatechange/news/topics/ fails to
mention this major climate news from the American Astronomical Society
and still prattles on about such world ending topics such as

"Butterflies come out earlier than ever"
or how about
" Emperor penguins face extinction" This ones good as its due to lack
of sea ice even though antarctic sea ice lvels have been steadily
increasing above average.

and how could I leave out

"AGW causing acidic oceans to are causing our beloved pixel animated
Nemo fish to become deaf" what was that speak up.

Of course my Stalin Soviet style party line analogy may be OTT when
comparing to the UKMO website garbage their inabilty and refusal to
acknowledge any climate news that has no blame attached to America,
Israel and England and news that may even see NAGC does sound like
George Orwell could have written.

By the way the MetO is staffed with many good people as was the Red
Army.
