Looking at the Met Office outlook to the next 30 days suggests the weather is set to carry on with the cool, unsettled theme. Unless there is another weather regime flip in August this will probably go down as another mediocre summer. Arguably much better than a serious, prolonged drought though. I'm off to Sutherland for a walking holiday at the end of July, so hoping (but not expecting) for some settled conditions around then. Mind you I wouldn't necessarily fully trust the 16-30 as it's been wrong before. Too early to write off July just yet. It would be remarkable though if we had yet another year with a good spring and rubbish summer, it would almost seem like some pattern is setting in, with, for some reason, a strong tendency for the jet stream to go south in the summer months just when it's least wanted...
