A warm night here in the Otter Valley with a minimum of 17.2°C.
Nights when the temperature fails to fall below 17°C are not common here, this being mainly due to the rural, valley location. The warmest nights generally occur towards the end of August and early September, when the sea is at its warmest. The warmest night I have recorded since 2005 was on the 21st August 2010 with a minimum of 18.3°C. Days with minimum 17°C or warmer: 2006 8 days 2007 0 days 2008 2 days 2009 1 day 2010 3 days 2011 1 day so far.... ____________________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Not sure what my warmest night is but IIRC it is over 16C. Hopefully we will be shut of this horrible tropical air later in the week as nice cool Atlantic air returns. Max. today a sticky 18C with 15-17C dewpoints. Moderate drizzle this morning and thick fog soaking all surfaces. Rain total 3mm. Will -- |

After a cloudy morning, the sun broke through this afternoon and thankfully warmed things up. Temperatures were bumping along at around 19°C all morning making it a bit cool for the beach or garden but in the sunnier interludes this afternoon, a very pleasant maximum of 23.7°C was reached. Bright with occasional glimpses of the sun this evening, but a tad too cool for sitting outside due to the breeze. Hopefully we will see more in the way of sunshine tomorrow, and warmer too. How can 18°C be sticky? Maybe you've got over-active, highly inefficient mitochondria Will? (19:50), 19.3°C, RH 74%, DP 14.5°C, 1012 hPa, Wind 11 mph S. ____________________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

How can 18°C be sticky? Maybe you've got over-active, highly inefficient mitochondria Will? It's the dewpoint Nick. 15-17C dewpoint is sticky in my book. It would be far more comfortable if it was 10C or less. I could say how can people feel comfortable in 23C+? OK for just lounging around but as soon as you start doing something I at least break out into a sweat, which is OK in itself but not comfortable. At work the temperature is kept in the range 21-23C and I always find that a tad warm and would prefer 16C inside as a comfortable temperature. I've always been like that, ever since a boy when I would go out in the freezing cold with not much on, much to my mother's consternation! One reason why I love Dartmoor, I'd melt in lowland Devon LOL. It also has advantages, our heating bills are pretty low and as I get older any changes to my circulation efficiency would be compensated for. Disadvantage is that I never ever holiday in a hot climate, if we go to southern Europe it is always high up where temperatures are in the high teens most of the time. NY Alesund sounds attractive at times, but the darkness would get to me as I like light :-) Another horrible warm and sticky night beckons, temperature is still +15.1C at 2200. Will -- |

The Met Office are promising 26C for tomorrow where I'll be (Berkshire) with a minimum of 19C overnight, and then 27C on Wednesday - this is more like it! :-) Warmer would be nice, but at least it's pleasantly warm again for the first time in weeks. Could do with a couple of months of this to make up for the rotten summer so far... |

Being able to eat outside all evening and always feel warm. Then (and this is the best bit), get back at midnight to the apartment and dive in the swimming pool (unheated) and have a good swim, then sit around in just shorts until 2am or 3am drinking ice-cold beer. And at no point do you feel cold, just lovely and warm. That is something I have only ever experienced rarely in this country, and that was when I lived in London (Summer 1995, August 1997 spring to mind), when we used to 'break into' the outdoor swimming pool at Trent Park, near Cockfosters. Fantastic! And of course, I could go on about swimming for hours in seawater with a temperature of 28°C.........and never having to get out because you feel cold. ___________________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

I'm really tired of it being so chilly this 'summer', even with the bedroom windows shut, that I need a duvet *and* a towelling robe thrown on top to be comfortable. I would perish of frostbite under Will's preferred conditions :-) |
