The storms that disrupted the Pope's visit to Madrid at the weekend were
today (Mon) confined to NW parts of the country, giving up to 60mm of rain in the Galicia region. They are now moving nothwards out over the sea with the possibility of reaching the UK and/or France. On Sunday night, 79mm fell on the Galician city of Vigo in only two hours, causing serious flooding with people trapped in cars and so on. (Football fans may recognise Vigo as the home of RC Celta - which incidentally means 'Celtic' in Spanish.) Also of note in Monday's weather were the high temperatures in Mallorca (Majorca), with Palma airport reaching 37.8C. By contrast, temperatures in the west of the country have fallen by as much as 10 degrees from yesterday. |
