uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

On average, I gather, thunder is heard on three days a year in
these parts. Yesterday afternoon, 26 August, was one of those. Moderately spectacular, with plenty of lightning forks to be seen, and mercifully not too protracted, as we were intending to fly gliders. Disappointed to note that the lightning strikes we saw were not being recorded on http://www.ukstorms.com/ - this must call into question the accuracy of the data. Presumably it becomes less accurate the further away one if from the antenna. Anne Moray Firth |
