It doesn't surprise me in the slightest, as I have a half- decent knowledge of the value of wildflowers and herbal medicines. I doubt the Rosicrucians called them vitamins and antioxidents, however. Neither did they understand their workings. Like many cultures, however, they will have understood their effects. I'm very glad to hear that the Rosicrucians have modernised their healing techniques in the light of modern medicine. Very sensible. Do your healers only use these ancient medicinal routes, or do they employ spiritualist techniques. It appears that they do from their literatu "The Rosicrucian work of healing is carried on by the Elder Brothers of The Rosicrucian Order through a band of Invisible Helpers whom they are instructing. The work is conducted according to the commands of Christ Jesus, namely, "Preach the gospel and heal the sick." Applications for assistance may be made to our Healing Department."http://www.rosicrucian.com/healing.htm ==================================== Will reply: That web site is nothing to do with the official Rosicrucian Order AMORC. It is something put together by a group of Christian mystics. Unfortunately the word "Rosicrucian" is not copyrighted but AMORC is. So the answer is a firm NO from me regarding spiritualist techniques. Paul: Good, I hoped not. However, searching the past editions of Rose-Croix, there is this abstract: MIND-BODY-SPIRITUALITY AND HEALTH INTERACTIONS Lonnie C. Edwards M.D. Vice-President of the English Grand Lodge for the Americas: The Rosicrucian Order, AMORC Abstract: Mind/body and spirituality in health and healing include a variety of approaches, treatments and findings. Harvard and Duke Universities, among others, have provided academic settings for encouraging and exciting forums for discussion of these topics. Presentations of research findings include such areas as body/mind and spirituality in healing, religious influences and their effect on immune and cardiovascular systems, the importance of thoughts, and other subjects dealing with health and well being. This research supports the use of many methodologies, including support groups, imaging, relaxation training and meditation. The Rosicrucian Order and its mystical teachings encompass the ideas and principles now being investigated. This appears to be current teaching, unless I'm mistaken? There are also articles on how a dowser can be magnetically impaired and an article discussing the two marriages of Alchemy. Like i said, these are at the very edges of science and some would say outside of science. ================================================ Will reply: They are meant to be "on the edge" as that is partly what Rosicrucians are about, free thinking, exploration and philosophy. We leave mainstream to the experts in the field. You may have noticed that the editorial board is full of academics with PhDs. =============================================== This is the current edition of the Rose Croix journal. http://www.rosecroixjournal.org/issues/index.html I see articles about angels, and concealing and revealing Shakespeare's secrets, together with other religious content, but would you point out to me the science in those articles? They may well have been peer reviewed, but the articles are at the far edges of science. ===================================== Will reply: And? Others are in a different vein. I haven't read the articles you quote. ===================================== Paul: I couldn't see any others on the website in the current edition. There are more? There are ceratinly past editions, from which I've quoted the above articles. http://www.rosecroixjournal.org/issues/archives.html There are ones that appear to relate to more mainstream scientific concepts, but their content is there often to try to link Rosicrucian teaching to some scientific principle. It's certainly revealing! ======================================= Will reply: Thanks for taking the time to look Paul. I hoped it would be of some interest. I did mean past editions, sorry for the confusion. Paul, do you mind if we leave it here, I have enjoyed our robust discussion even though I do get passionate at times. We are very much OT for the rest of the group viz a viz Len's interjection. Happy to continue via e-mail if you wish? Thanks also for snipping - helpful. Cheers, Will --- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text -- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Ah.. when did a discussion on usenet ever follow the discussion title after 30+ posts? *)) Like I said, judging by the article in the annual Rose-Croix journal, spiritual healing appears to be current practice within the Rosicrutians. Does your organisation practice spiritual healing and does it advocate spiritual healing as a producer of cures? The content of the journal is definitely "on the edge"! I just can't see a great deal of science in there and you've said that is a major thrust of Rosicrutian teaching. If so, why do so many articles in your organisation's journal relate to religious points and not scientific ones? (Angels? Dowsing?). =================================== Will reply: The articles are written by Rosicrucians of whom some are religious, others are not. The existence of angels is not taught but some are interested. I'm not personally. Have you ever tried dowsing? Dowsing again is not taught per se but many are interested in it. My next door neighbour (other side to meditation consultant) has used it successfully as have many thousands of others. Statistically the chance of a random success is astronomically small. But how does it work? That is why it is investigated and one would hope that controlled experiments would take place in an atmosphere of open investigation. Religious type healing is not taught I can assure you of that. We do use a technique called "absent healing" which involves visualising the person (perhaps using a recent photograph) and then sending healing through thought ( I simplify but you get the idea) . I have done that successfully myself for a friend. OK that per se says nothing to an outsider it may have been a coincidence but again that is why these things need to be investigated properly. Another thing you must be aware of is not to confuse "spiritual" with "religious", in a mystical sense both mean different things. A person can be spiritual without being religious and vice-versa. I would describe myself as a spiritual person but I have no religion whatsoever. HTH. As an aside and in balance to what I said above, there are some open studies that have found dowsing to be nothing more than chance despite the chance of an individual random success being astronomically small. It is a controversial but interesting area. I personally go along with the theory that the rods somehow amplify signals in the user's subconscious. Will -- |
