Default Joe Public's verdict on the 2011 summer

Atrocious and pretty much non-existent. Hardly a warm sunny day since
April.

Global warming is melting the Arctic so fast, all our long-term weather
records must be becoming less and less useful for predicting the future.
What happens in 5 or 10 years' time when the ice is completely gone in
summer? It seems very unlikely to me that this won't have a large impact on
UK climate, but what that impact will be is anyone's guess, I suspect. It's
not something we've ever seen before.

Drawing conclusions on a single season in a single region is foolish.
Why don't you incorporate the British spring or the Texan summer into
your body of evidence?

As I recall, 2008/9 was cooler than the new average, but hardly cold;
2009/10 was cold, and 2010/11 was an average winter overall with a
remarkably severe December.
