Default Herstmonceux Query

I would be interested to know if anyone has knowledge as to the
location of Herstmonceux AWS Weather Station or know anything about
its history? I visited the Astronomy festival held within the grounds
of the science centre today and took a walk around the grounds,
Nothing in site around the castle and the 'old' science buildings, now
apparently used for student accomdation also led to no signs of any
met equipment. I know they use the autosonde systerm so that is
probably tucked away or on a rooftop. I even looked at Google maps,
bearing in mind the resolution, to see if anything looked like a met
enclosure but still no signs. My next port of call will the be MO
archive, I'm sure thay must have a photo of the site?

FWIW, 03882 is the main Met Office site. It's a little way (3Km
guesstimate) from the castle, on the other side of Herstmonceux, along
a small road that heads towards Cowbeech and Horam.

You can't see a lot from the road, just a modernish looking building
in a fenced open area.

Hi, Richard,
Has it moved? I'm sure it was within the grounds of the observatory when I
visited, to the left of the main entrance road. That was around the year
2000.
Best wishes,
Ken

Many thanks Ian/Ken - Found it on Google maps - Herstmonceux West End
- no where near the observatory centre. It appears to be on the edge
of the village - I cannot understand why it is not within the grounds
of the Herstmonceux Observatory? I would have thought it would have
been a more open site and more secure, despite the fence. Probably
down to cost

Regards

Richard
