AEMet (Spanish Met Agency) has just released overall data for the three
month period June, July and August. This period has been warmer than normal in Spain this year, with an average temperature of 23.2C over the country as a whole, 0.9C above the 1971-2000 average. However, it ranks as just 8th warmest since 2000, being cooler than all but 2002, 2007 and 2008. Overall rainfall at 55mm was 35% below the long-term average. As usual, the overall figures mask regional variations, with parts of NW Spain being slightly cooler than normal, while parts of Andalucia and Murcia (SE Spain) had anomalies of more than +2.0C. Hottest temperature recorded was 42.5C at Morón de la Frontera (Andalucia) on 19th Aug. Parts of Castilla La Mancha, the Valencia region and Andalucia had less than 25% of normal rainfall, but parts of Catalonia and the Canary Islands had over 200%. Further details (in Spanish), with maps, at: http://www.aemet.es/es/noticias/2011...unioagosto2011 |
