I have noticed that Philip Eden has a habit of always trying to downplay
things. To call record temperatures in October merely "unusual" is
stretching the meaning of the word too far IMO.

Well it most certainly is 'unusual' but better words would be
'exceptional' or even 'unprecedented'. Such words should be
used sparingly but I think this current hot spell easily warrants it.

Don't get me started on 'freak' weather though, aaarrrghhh!

But at the top of the article it says "1 October 2011 Last updated at
01:45". So Philip clearly wrote his article before the record October
temperatures occurred. In any case I find his measured approach a
refreshing contrast to the hyperbole that we get from the media (and
even on occasion from the Met Office).

Tell me how often the records show a connection with the incidence of
tropical cyclones on you data base.

ISTR that your site's forecast for this year downplayed the season. I
forget if it was intended for the year and oceans in general or the
North Atlantic in particular.

Which forecast are you referring too?

Our Atlantic forecast looks to be a significant over-prediction.

Forgive me I thought you were involved with a website maintained by an

Hmm.. that last one was to a link on the first page, I read it last
March, I think, before posting my own error prone forecast for the
year on here.

It was probably one of these:

If it was March when you last looked, you would have been looking at the
December forecast.
