Default GFS Grinding Out a Real Blocked Scenario

Okay 18z not finished yet; and is now as I type it's into anyone's
guess territory, but that high just keeps dominating Europe and
Scandinavia with surely very cool air forming over Eastern Europe and
the old western Soviet Union. Lots of fog and frost with the UK and
particularly the east and SE not that far away. Reminds me of 62.

Okay the latest at the end of the run

Not sure about the last bit but I remember saying last winter that it
was ages since we had a permanent large HP over Europe in winter and was
promptly told it was very rare. Nevertheless I'm sure these were more
prevalent in byegone eras and as you say, if it hangs around eventually
it should lead to some form of cold weather, especially if it migrates
north a bit.

And lo the 6-hourly GFS-watching beginneth and all waited with baited
breath....for the 18z to come out as a roaring westerly and all went
to bed dismayed.

Do not be downhearted Richard,
do not be dismayed
for hope will come from the east.
and Dawlish will be sore afraid
