Could well be, by or just soon after the end of the month, as this cold
cross-atlantic flow sets in. GFS 06Z ensemble turns it much colder after about 5 days, though with still a few milder members. Been consistent now for a colder Atlantic regime now. I use Dublin to assess snow potential for Dartmoor and look for 850hPa for -3C or less. Not the best snow predictor of course but a useful guide for my altitude and above. By the end of the month Dublin has circa 40% chance of this. Please don't run away with the idea that I am predicting a lot of lying snow I'm definitely not, all I'm saying is that for high ground the first snowflakes may start falling by the end of the month or soon after. Always a nice milestone in the year for me, like the first single figure max., first frost (still to come of course), etc. LOL may even get a snowflake before a frost this year :-) -- http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- |

Definitely warmer than last year although as stated otherwhere, I have no data for last year. -- Gianna Peterhead, Scotland buchan-meteo.org.uk |

Haven't seen as much as a single snowflake falling here this year, and I would like it to stay that way making it the first snowflakeless year since 2007. Though 2008 was nearly snowflakeless, it took until the spring for a few of the blighters to fall on the 6th of April. But that was the only occasion that year. Only 32 more days to go before the days start getting longer. Another rather lovely November day with some sunshine. (12:30), 13.6°C, RH 92%, DP 12.3°C, 1016 hPa (R), Wind 7 mph ESE. -- Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Never had a snowflakeless year since moving to Haytor. This year we have only had 3 days so far (all in January). More if one includes sleet though. Just one day with snow lying more than half cover. In 2007 we had 18 days "snow falling" but only two with snow lying more than half cover and that was my least snowiest year since I started recording up here in 2003. 2011 could take that spot sadly, but then we do still have December. Will, Dartmoor is where I go to get my 'snowfix'. Though mainly enthused by t'missus who was brought up in Lisbon and only ever saw snow fall and settle once. The novelty doesn't seem to wear off. Great to drive up to Dartmoor, walk out on to the snowy high moor, take photos, enjoy the wild land and sky scapes. Then back down to the verdant Devon lowlands and the tropics of the Otter Valley..... -- Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |
