Regular info. here for Copley:-

The severest gales can sometimes develop further east, lets hope so, don't
like really strong ones!
Best wishes,
Ken

Yes, a marked inversion looks like developing at around 3500 FT, with
forecast strength in free air of 70 knots at that height later in the day,
which will lead to acceleration over the Pennines and also trapped waves.
There are likely to be some very powerful lee gusts in the NE, as per the
Met Office warning.

Ah, wonderful lee waves. Like to take my K8 glider up there. Get
someone to give me a tug up to the required height and away I'd go.

Got my gliding wings when in the ATC as a young lad. Sedbergh and
Kirby cadet gliders. Those were the days.
So I'd know what I was doing. Well maybe. :-)

Well we've got a few other glider pilots on here to go with you Len,
plus someone to do the air traffic control as well ;-)
Good luck!

Count me out. I have no idea how a glider can tow another glider,
never mind climb to that height.

Someone with a long rope, jumping out of a control tower..
How would that work, how many pulley blocks would that require, my
grasp of mechanical advantage is ....errrm
...not.
