Default Heavy rain slowing as reaching London - Dorset looked heavy

I think the heavy rain will arrive soon but its progress seems to have
slowed somewhat. Looks to have been pouring in Bournemouth/Dorset area
for several hours. Perhaps Martin can confirm what Eveshot has been like.

Not as bad as it looks then! Disintegrating a bit as it often does East
of London. Essex and Suffolk Water resevoirs are very low at the moment.

Rain drumming down woke me up at 0300hrs and reckoned it must be the
cold front passing and sure enough, rain ceased suddenly after a max
rate of 60mm/hr. I had some 23mm till midnight a nd 7.6mm this
morning.
Will be going up to Bedford on Wednesday where things are always less
exciting than down here. Three days on the Norfolk coast to unwind.

25mm to midnight in Teignmouth and 5mm since. Very wet and quite windy
too, but nothing out of the ordinary for the season. See what the
garden and woods look like in an hour, but I don't anticipate damage.
See what Friday brings!

Dave, we had 22.8mm overnight, with more to come by the look of it.
Blustery too. Apparently the electricity is off further north in
Somerset, according to the local (Bristol) news.

.... total rain in 24hrs to 09Z this morning (Tuesday/13th) = 21.2 mm,
with the bulk of that falling between 18Z & 03Z, as others have noted, a
marked cold frontal passage around the latter time - strong/squally gust
of wind, but looking around this morning, just the usual larger twigs,
small (weakened) branches down etc.

Highest gust from the Hurn data output was 47 kn (54 mph/87 km/hr) in
the hour to 02Z which is 'interesting' but not particularly noteworthy.

Just 6mm here and max gust of 39 mph as cold front passed at 02.53.
Might be more dramatic Friday.

Just to correct my previous post, which I took from the AWS, the
overnight rain here in the standard rainguage was 32.9mm. Lots of twigs,
leaves and other rubbish on the pavements in the village. People have
prudently put boards outside their front doors to stop the water coming in.

24 hour rainfall (12/0900-13/0900Z) was 25.1mm in Romsey.
Negligible damage to trees and just one fence panel down in
the locality and that was in this morning's squall. Highest
gust was 44kt at 2151Z yesterday and 39kt so far today at
0128Z.

All in all, a blowy period but not remotely 'stormy'. There
were many more stronger winds in the 1980s and the early
1990s with frequent gales in 1990. Arguably, it's the low
angle sun on shiny wet roads that's presenting the biggest
driving hazard around here.
