I've never seen Aviemore be coldest by that sort of margin before (or not that I can remember, anyway). Indeed I've only rarely seen /anywhere/ be coldest by that much. The data at the link given above seems to show that there was no fog, but it does show very light winds. The data for Aviemore in my newspaper this morning shows a maximum of -1°C (to the nearest whole degree), but I wouldn't stake my life on its being correct. -- John Hall "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it." Winter temperatures up here can vary widely depending on cloud cover, wind direction or lack of and orientation of the land surface. I live in the middle of the triangle of the Loch Glascarnoch, Tain Range and Altnaharra weather stations. Sometimes all the T+ and T- temperatures are similar in the winter at other times there is very wide variation. The very low angle of the sun in the winter has a profound effect whereas in the summer, the height of the sun will even out the temperatures to some extent.
