The crocus in our garden are all flowering profusely at the moment. The wife
noted the first one on 31st December. Unusually, the snowdrops flowered a couple of weeks after the crocus this year. -- Bernard Burton Wokingham Berkshire. Weather data and satellite images at: http://www.woksat.info/wwp.html |

Along the road from where I live is a place called Backhouse Park and it is well known in and around these parts for the great swathes of crocuses that herald the Spring. I've checked the dates on two photographs I've taken when they are at their best, one last year and the other, the year before. Last year's photograph was taken on 2 March and the year before was on 17 March. It will be interesting to see whether the relatively mild winter has any influence with regards to this year's display. Regards... David Allan. |

Weather data and satellite images at:http://www.woksat.info/wwp.html Snowdrops seem more fixed to a particular date than Daffs & crocuses, which are more weather dependent. In west Cornwall the early daffodils nearly always (except in the coldest winters) flower before snowdrops. Unusually, in fact I've never seen it before, there are a couple of Cornish Palms (called Torbay Palms in England) in full flower in Morrab Gardens Penzance. They normally come out May/June time. Unusually, the snowdrops flowered a couple of weeks after the crocus this year. I have no spring flowers whatsoever in my garden. Having said that it has not been that mild in upland Devon thank goodness. Wind chill was near freezing today on the walk above 400 metres with air temperatures around 7C. http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- |
