The temperature in Jakutsk (62N, 130E) has twice in the last 2
days reached -12°C, about 30 degC above normal. This seems to be due
to a vigorous easterly which has penetrated the normal intense
inversion and brought in air from the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering
Strait. Earlier in the month the temperature had been down to -53°C
with fog which is much more like normal conditions in Dec/Jan albeit a
rather chilly version.

I don't think we're ever going to get our air from 130E!

I always check this place - it's climate is *extremely* un-
British and very radiation-driven. It's climatically and synoptically
rather isolated. The only weather they get is fog in the winter, some
snow in the autumn and the odd thunderstorm in summer. Other than
that it's sunny with light winds, the annual sunshine total being 2300
hrs, an extraordinary figure for such a latitude. Mean annual temp
-10°C, though.
There are one or two other exotic locations I check daily, partly
for education, partly for amusement. :-)

Unless it came the long way round via Canada and the north Atlantic.
It would arrive somewhat 'modified' of course.....
