Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net "Weather Home & Abroad" ----------------------------------- I wasn't up that early but did notice 0.3mm pptn in my AWS rain gauge. I had assumed it was melt from the previous day though. If it wasn't for the wind you wouldn't really see today as anything other than a chillly winter's day. Up to 3.3C now, warmer than yesterday because of the sun, despite the lower 850's Dave, S,.Essex |

Heathrow apparently has also had snow showers, while Stansted is shown as having had freezing drizzle! Dick Lovett |

Looking at the GFS tomorrow is even colder with the 2m Taupunkt chart suggesting dewpoints of -20C just across the Channel... |

I walked about 4 miles this morning when it was -5 to -6°C and I can assure you that it felt more than chilly on my face and ears ! -10°C minimum forecast here for tonight and -6°C maximum tomorrow. http://www.meteo.be/meteo/view/en/15...cam+Uccle.html Colin Youngs Brussels |

I can't imagine Colin what our young forecasters would make of your
temperatures if they ever got over here,Laura would probably lose her voice from the hysteria setting in,and Alex Deacon would gyrate into the studio floor .Sorry to be parochial, but I wonder do you have the same antics over there ? Such temperatures were widespread in this country in December 2010, and I don't recall any hysteria from BBC forecasters at least. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

RonB Funnily enough, I though exactly the same when I heard the hyperbole of the forecasters early this morning. (ITV's were the worst, BTW). Cold it is; bitingly, perishingly, record-breaking, off-the-wall stuff it definitely is not. You'd have thought the cold spells from past two winters would have been fresher in their minds. Tom. |

No antics, Ron. Here on video is the Belgian (Dutch language) TV forecast broadcast at 20.00 this evening. http://www.deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuw.../weer/1.238640 Presenter Frank Deboosere is a meteorologist - well known on TV but not a "celebrity". You may not be able to understand the words but you can see the style. Graph at the end shows the expected trend in temperatures until the end of next week. Note: maximum -6°C expected here tomorrow and -4°C on the following days. Colin Youngs Brussels |
