Indeed, Greece and Turkey always seem to end up with the cold from the
perpetual GFS Easterly "slider" as I have named it, opposed to the
famous GFS Northerly "toppler". Ensembles always predict -18C 850's here
a week out and dilute it and shift it S.E each day up to the arrival.
On this occasion we get a glancing blow and -10 850's so the model is
gradually improving. Why they don't reprogram the thing to get it right
every time I don't know, but luckily the Met Office seem to and they
have been excellent with their forecasts up to and during this spell.

Yes, I agree. Mainly because they have been very honest and said "We
don't know" at distances above 5 days, throughout. *))

Also had a look at Moscow where the "live" picture shows the sun has just
set (or is about to rise) at 1309 local. Obviously the site can't be trusted
to show live pictures.
