.... from "Red Sky and Night, Shepherd's Delight" (Paul Marriott), in
addition to the usual .... " If Candlemas be fine and clear, We've half the winter to have or more ... " (etc.), he has this:- " As far as the sun shines in at the window on Candlemas Day, so deep will the snow be ere winter is gone " We've just had our second day in a row with unbroken sunshine .... based on Hurn, just over 7 hours each day ... Trouble is, *our* February 2nd isn't the same as the 'ancient' February 2nd. Still, makes you wonder :-) Martin. -- West Moors / East Dorset Lat: 50deg 49.25'N, Long: 01deg 53.05'W Height (amsl): 17 m (56 feet) COL category: C1 overall |

Current forecast here (BBC weather site) is: Friday 2° Saturday 4° Sunday 6° Monday 8° A rather lovely outlook with rain only forecast for Saturday. Warm and toasty. Will it be spring soon? If Candlemas be fair and clear there'll be twa winters in the year ....is the version I know, but there are countless. |
