This may seem insignificant but the east wind has really picked up here in
the past hour despite predictions of light winds today. Also a build up of cumulus. Temperature has fallen back down to -1.0C at 1230, probably giving us an ice day. It makes me wonder if the advection of colder air from France has been underdone by the models in relation to the warm front/triple point coming in tomorrow? http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- |

Also sig. that there is no orange snow yet, much uncertainty as to amounts, when and location I should think! Will -- |

Light northerlies since mid morning so rather less cold. An Ice Day yesterday but not today. The real bonus in all this is 3 days of unbroken sunshine. -- George in Epping, West Essex www.eppingweather.co.uk www.winter1947.co.uk CWOP at http://weather.gladstonefamily.net/site/C4752 |

Rather than snatching short opportunities to go out with my camera I seem to be able to pick when I like. Might get a bit grey at the start of next week but more HP, hopefully sunny ones, to come. Warmer than yesterday already. But looking at those METARs the near continent is well below freezing. Don't expect any of those showers to make it here tonight off the North Sea. Time to start building myself up for Saturday nights event, tablets ready for that disappointment as well!! Now where did I throw those toys ? As you say is the high further west than the models predicted? |

Synops at 12:00 and 13:00 across Devon are showing 4 to 7kts SE'ly, including Liscombe at 348 metres. Berry Head easterly 5-8kts. I'm supposed to be travelling back into London on Sunday from Kent. We'll see. Stephen. |

We'll see. Stephen. Virtually calm in Penzance all day with a glassy sea. It dropped to -4.8C last night, with the air more or less coming down the spine of the peninsula. This is colder than any night in 2011, and equals the coldest night last winter (-4.8C) on 25/12/10. It was the lowest February min on record (since 1991) beating -3.5 on 15/2/94. With today's sunshine and the end of the east wind, it has become slightly less cold, reaching a max of 4.9C and is showling little sign of falling as yet, with the wind now a F1-2 S. Fairly low cloud base patchy Sc has been edging in from the NW, and now the typical frontal cloud is appearing. Graham Penzance |
