Hi, All,
Drizzle now freezing on all surfaces apart from gritted roads. Interesting that although -0.5C in Barnard Castle there was no ice when I visited grandchildren but return to Copley in thick freezing fog and -1.5C and it's like a skating rink. Must need to go well under 0C for ice in thick fog / overcast and high humidity. This might answer Graham's (Weston Coyney) point. Current 1930Z wind S 2KT vis 100 metres, freezing fog, drizzle, temp -1.4C Dew -2C, 1036mb steady. Snow still 4cm and now coated in ice. Very little snow melt in spite of today's rain, day max 0.4C at Met O site, probably below 0C at Lead Mill (I'm not going down there tonight!!) Remarkably my anemometers are still turning! Yes Ken we had high humidity and thick fog with the rain and the temp just below freezing. My Davis wind sensor is frozen and stopped now. Everywhere covered in ice now but that's only happened in the last half hour. Graham (Weston Coyney) |

I think our ice had gone by midday (not that I ventured out to check!). It got above freezing about 0900 and max of about 3C and has only just got back to freezing. The day has been a horrible damp grey cold one. Not quite in hill fog. I did see some fog forming in the valley before it got dark. But I can see the lights of a farm across and down the valley ATM.
