Default Money Where Mouth is Time

Look I really need to get out into the garden but some of you green
puritans are getting up my nose.

Cards on the table, do the talk now do the walk, your actions cashing
the cheques that you mouths are writing.

Of course I do realise that you can say anything you like but honesty
is always the best policy.

Right what am I going on about, Well I belive the majority of this NG
users are fairly affluent middle class people and nothing wrong with
that but I wonder how many of those people who want to hand peoiple
who won't jump on the AGW bandwagon actually practise what they
preach.

For example what cars do you drive and is there more than one car per
family, say, does your partner have their own.

Anyone using solar panels windmills?

Lets leave it at that.

But it's the outspoken warmers I'm after.

Cards on the table, chequebook at the ready.

OK. I'll bet you any sum between £1,000 and £10,000 that a new global
temperature record is set within the period 2013-2017 inclusive. You
can choose any of the 5 temperature series (GISS, NOAA, Hadley, UAH,
or RSS) and we'll judge the record against that. We'll both lodge
£10,000 with a solicitor, together with the solicitor's fees.

You've said that global cooling is taking place often enough and many
of us think you are loopy Larry in saying so, but here's your chance
to make some hard cash out of someone you've decided not to like.
Should you turn down tghe bet, I'll label you a hypocrite.

I that "outspoken" enough for you?

Well to put my cards on the table.
I own three vehicles, a renault megane (new), a fiesta (old) and a VW
campervan (very old).
I consider myself to be very wealthy in that I am in very good health, live
in a lovely house in a nice part of the country with a lovely wife and
family. I am also extremely happy. I do not use alternative energy but I do
burn log fires and am very frugal with heating (most of the time we don't
consider it necessary). We have few "gadgets" in the house and love the
simple pleasures of gardening, walking and playing sport and I like the odd
pint or three! I'm also into mysticism and I meditate whenever I can. Life's
good and I appreciate and am thankful for all that I receive. I accept the
facts of global warming but am sceptical over predictions for the future but
do see the need for all of us to take responsibility for our use of
resources on this (still beautiful) home we call Earth.

I decided to waive the car question in your case as I don't believe
you can drive whilst sectioned.

I am not one of those (outspoken warmer) and probably not one of those
either (affluent middle class). I am retired and have been so since I was
51.

I have one car with a 1600 engine. I am considering trading down to a
shiny new vehicle with a one litre engine. Its emissions are low enough
that I would not have to buy a tax disc, my insurance would fall
significantly and my petrol consumption would be halved.

Would I do this to help save the planet or merely to reduce my expenses
by a few hundred pounds per year? Does it matter so long as I do it?

The house has gas fuelled central heating and is double glazed and
insulated insofar as the latter is possible in an old stone cottage. I
keep the house at a sensible temperature during the day (21 downstairs,
18 upstairs) except in summer when the heating is off. The heating is off
at night all year round. Hot water is on demand, not in a tank.

I switch electrical equipment off when not in use, rather than leave
things on standby (even my hi-fi and that is better left on), however my
router, network switch, and server are permanently on.
I use low wattage fluorescent lighting throughout the house and by choice
- there are still plenty of power hungry alternatives.

No windmills or solar panels as the benefits are minimal in my situation.

Honest as always. Thanks, however the silence of the warms is almost
deafening.

Another honest reply -thanks Gianna,

Personally I only drive to work, I've never been one for flash loud
cars , I only want to get from A-B as efficiently and as economically
as possible. My car is a humble suzuki ignis 1300 petrol. I've had it
from new and as my lileage is so low it's really not worth part
exchanging it. It's just over five years old and I have 18000 miles on
the clock. Of course I appreciate that people living in rurul
situations need to drive and need a good car,

I live in an old detached Victorian six befroom house in Sydenham and
I heat that very sparingly. I still live there as my house is major
part of my pension when I officially retire.

I have investigated solar voltaic but would only seriously consider
them if I could mount them as low a one storey as they are a pain to
arttend to on a roof

How about you. What extravagances am I missing in my frugal lifestyle?
BTW I only drive one car at a time!

Cheers, Alastair.
