![]() .... (04/0930Z) Rain began here in the early hours, and we were up to 5 mm by 06Z, then solid moderate intensity (brief heavy intensity) thereafter brought the total to 11.1 mm in standard gauge at 0900GMT. Still raining - mostly moderate, though we've just had a very brief heavy spell - another 1.5 mm: some signs of embedded line convection looking at the radarnet. The upper trough is being extended / sharpened as the cold air digs in to our west, so this surface feature is going to develop a bit more and slow down - quite a brisk northerly flow developing on its western flank too .... (04/1200Z): continuous rain, moderate at least/isolated heavy, since above: total rain for 'event' (i.e., since early hours) now stands at 23 mm (electronic gauge). Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net "Weather Home& Abroad" .... still a way to go with this one: our PPN is easing up now - but I fancy it's got a good number of hours for your part of the country. Not sure you'll see quite as much as us, but they way the upper pattern is distorting etc., suggests that you should get at least 10 mm before it's all over - any more will depend on these fingers of embedded convection and whether they pivot over your location or not - wouldn't like to be too categoric about those! My sister is down in Berkhamsted (Herts) today and reports some quite heavy snow there. I believe that part of the world is relatively high altitude. Richard |

We had the same rainfall total split across 12/13 December last year, but to find something markedly higher, we go back to 25/26th October last year, when we had 44.4 mm A couple of showers since 1520Z, otherwise a reasonable afternoon now.
